NEW WORKPLACE RECYCLING LAWS ARE COMING TO ENGLAND

ARE YOU READY?

Starting from 31st March 2025, businesses in England will need to follow new recycling rules. Under this legislation, all businesses with 10 or more full-time employees must separate "recycling relevant waste"—including dry recyclables and food waste—from general waste on site before collection.

We’re here to help you understand your legal obligations, the benefits of improved recycling for your business, and how to choose the right waste management systems.

What are the key changes?

Separate food waste: Businesses and households must separate food waste from other recycling.

Standardise waste streams: Local authorities must collect the same recyclable waste streams from households.

Standardise bin systems: Businesses must use consistent bin systems to separate waste.

Collect food waste weekly: Local authorities must collect food waste weekly from households.

Who is affected?

Businesses and non-domestic premises with 10 or more full-time employees must comply by March 31 2025.

Businesses and non-domestic premises with fewer than 10 employees must comply by March 31 2027.

Local authorities must implement the requirements for all residents by March 31 2026.
