Climbing for a Cure: Taking on the Coniston Fells for The ICR

2 min

Next weekend, 120 hardy souls from across the Business Supplies industry will be heading to the Lake District to tackle some of its most iconic peaks — all in support of the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR).

Our chosen route will see us climbing Dow Crag, Coniston Old Man, Brim Fell, Swirl How, and Wetherlam — a demanding circuit known for its rugged beauty and unpredictable weather. The Lake District is never shy about testing your resolve; it’s often wet, windy, and even wintery at this time of year. But that’s part of the challenge — and part of what makes this event so special.

Last weekend’s training recce offered a rare glimpse of the fells in their best light. Between relentless spells of rain, a brief weather window opened, revealing stunning views across the Coniston range — a reminder of why this place inspires so many adventurers and walkers.

(See photo below for a taste of the calm before the next storm!)

This climb isn’t just about the miles or the mountains — it’s about coming together for a cause that matters deeply to us all. Every step, every gust of wind, and every sore muscle will be a small contribution towards the vital work the ICR does to understand and defeat cancer.

We’re immensely proud to be part of this collective effort. To everyone taking part — good luck, stay safe, and don’t forget to look up once in a while and enjoy those fleeting moments when the clouds break and the fells reveal their magic.

If you’d like to support the team and donate to The ICR, please visit our fundraising page below. Every contribution helps fuel groundbreaking research and brings us closer to a world where cancer no longer claims lives too soon.

Here’s to teamwork, perseverance, and a great cause — see you on the fells!
